Alamogordo recognizes four new EMT basics after 180-hour course; instructor reports 100% pass rate

The Alamogordo City Commission presented certificates July 28 to four fire department members who completed an EMT-basic course run in partnership with Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. Melissa Carter, the course'lead instructor, told the commission the program ran from March to early July and included 180 hours of training: "This class is 180 hours. It's 90 hours of didactic portion... and then they have to do 90 hours of skill time, which is also with me," she said.
Carter said the cohort completed required clinical rotations with American Medical Response and left the class with strong exam results: "They were at a 100% pass rate on all their exams," she said. Deputy Chief Lashley and other presenters congratulated the graduates and noted the certificates allow the trainees to pursue national and state EMS registry licensure. The commission recognized the role of local preceptors and families in supporting the students through coursework and clinical time.
