Survey: Most respondents would support a new station if project cost is reduced

Committee staff presented the final community survey results and told members the form, open from June 25 to July 23, collected 247 unique responses. "Over the course of the survey, we had 247 unique respondents," the presenter said, adding that 83.4% of respondents reported they engaged with the project by voting. Of the 206 people who reported a vote, 118 said they voted in favor and 84 said they voted no; 24 chose not to disclose how they voted.
The presenter said the top three factors shaping respondents’ views were cost/tax impact, firefighter safety and building size and scope. "The biggest thing we heard was the project cost," the presenter said, and committee members agreed to emphasize that takeaway in a joint briefing with the Select Board on Aug. 10. Staff also noted nearly 80% of respondents would support the project with a reduced cost, a point the committee said should guide the upcoming design-reduction exercise. The presenter said raw responses and an Excel spreadsheet with individual comments will be posted with the meeting packet for public review.
