Planning Director Carl Hamming briefed the Commission that Mike King is requesting a Major Development Permit to convert the former cleaners at 301 E. Third St., across from Fred Moodry School, into primarily residential use. Hamming said the property sits in the Central Business Development District and the requested change would allow a long‑term renter to occupy the space; King previously cleaned and cleared the property after acquiring it and presented examples of similar rehabilitations to the Planning Board. The Planning Board recommended approval of the permit at its December 8, 2025 meeting.
The public hearing opened at 6:04 p.m. and closed without public comment. The Commission did not take immediate final action at the Jan. 27 work session; the matter remains on the Commission agenda for formal consideration under the county's development permit procedures.
