The commission approved two personnel‑benefits items on Nov. 5, extending the city’s Aetna group health agreement through Dec. 31, 2026, and authorizing the second renewal with Standard Life for group life, AD&D, long‑term disability and voluntary programs for 2026.
Human Resources Director Kanika Stamp presented the Aetna extension and said there will be no changes to plan benefits or employee contributions. The total contract cost for 2026 was reported at roughly $19.8 million. For the Standard Life renewal, Deputy Director Angelita (speaker 22) said rates for core life and LTD products would be unchanged for 2026 and noted a 9% rate decrease in a critical‑illness voluntary product; the total contract not to exceed approximately $1.358 million.
City management recommended approval for both contracts and the commission voted to extend and renew the agreements. Staff said rate guarantees and actuarial analyses informed the renewals and that the pension board had reviewed related bargaining changes for the fire pension ordinance (a separate item on the agenda).
