Council moves to dissolve City-County Memorial Stadium Commission; Lynches River equestrian arena guidelines advance to second reading

Florence County Council on June 18 approved second reading for an ordinance (No. 69-2025/26) amending county code to dissolve the City-County Memorial Stadium Commission after staff reported local high schools no longer plan to use the stadium.
"The high schools in the Florence area have no plans to use the Memorial Stadium," County Administrator Kevin Yokim said when introducing the ordinance; the record shows the motion carried on second reading. In the same section of the agenda, Ordinance No. 56-2025/26 (to establish guidelines, procedures and rental fees for the Lynches River County Park Equestrian Arena) was on second reading; County staff reported the Recreation Commission had approved the policy outline and cited Recreation Commission authority under county code to make bylaws for management and rentals.
Both items will continue through the ordinance process; the Lynches River equestrian arena ordinance was advanced on second reading and will return for further consideration.
