Florence County authorizes inmate labor agreement with South Carolina Department of Corrections

Florence County Council on June 18 authorized an inmate labor agreement with the South Carolina Department of Corrections to permit the use of inmates assigned to or eligible for minimum-security institutions on county public projects.
County Administrator Kevin Yokim said the agreement will be executed after review by the County Attorney and cited Sections 24-3-130 and 24-13-660 of the South Carolina Code of Laws as the statutory basis for the arrangement. "Florence County stipulates that it can and will provide adequate supervision of, and accountability for, the inmates," the minutes record. Council approved the motion; the agreement will proceed under county supervision and per statutory requirements.
The authorization is intended to provide a supervised labor force for public projects where appropriate and lawful.
