Council approves routine items: fireworks, equipment bid, liquor-license renewals, permits and personnel actions

The Martin City Council handled several routine but substantive items on Nov. 12.
The council approved purchasing fireworks for the next Fourth of July at the same amount as last year: $4,000. It accepted a single bid of $226 from Dallas Chief Eagle for a distributor truck. Liquor-license renewals were granted to Bro's Inc., Souls, Susan's H&H and the American Legion Club, and a wine license was issued for Yesway. The agenda item for 'Souls' was otherwise tabled because the manager, Samantha Little Eagle, could not attend.
On personnel and budget items, the council approved an auto-supplement of $7,639 to the law budget, funded by insurance proceeds, to repair a Durango damaged by a deer. Members discussed an $88 monthly increase in employee health insurance costs for 2026 and voted to adopt the $2,000 deductible plan instead of a $1,000 deductible option. The council set the city election date for June 2, 2026 and approved the first reading of Ordinance #268, a supplemental appropriation for fiscal year 2025.
The council also approved a building permit allowing Ernest Libby to move a trailer from 603 6th Ave out of town and approved a permit for C & M Properties to move a double-wide onto that same property. The council voted to handle past-due water bills under its usual procedures and adjourned, scheduling its next regular meeting for Dec. 10, 2025.
