Plan Commission recommends rezoning of 1780 N. 2753rd Road to Rural

Chair John Stone presided over a public hearing on May 26 in which the Ottawa Plan Commission recommended that the City Council approve a rezoning request for the property at 1780 N. 2753rd Road.
Bob Eschbach, representing property owners David and Timothy Richmond, told the commission that Timothy Richmond intends to build a home on the parcel and that David Richmond may build a second home in the future. Eschbach said the land was originally annexed as Rural and was reclassified to D (Office, Research, Light Industrial) about six years ago; commission members noted the site's proximity to the Conservation Foundation. No members of the public raised comments or objections during the hearing.
Commissioner Hughes moved to recommend approval to the City Council; Commissioner Mangold seconded. The commission recorded Ayes from Stone, Ruiz, Mangold and Hughes and no Nayes, and the motion carried. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Ottawa City Council for final action.
The rezoning request asks the council to change the zoning classification from D (Office, Research, Light Industrial) to R (Rural). The commission's recommendation does not itself change zoning; final approval requires a council decision at a subsequent meeting.
