Village staff recommended, and the board approved, authorization to submit a simplified rate case asking the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a 3% increase to metered water rates to help cover planned infrastructure projects. Staff described prior rate actions (a full case in 2021 and additional adjustments in 2024) and recommended the simplified approach as more palatable for customers than a larger single increase.
Trustees asked which charges the 3% applies to; staff clarified it applies to metered water charges (base and usage), not fire protection or other special charges. Using an example the administrator provided, the 3% increase would raise a typical base from $10.00 to $10.30 and add roughly $0.74/month for a modest water user. Trustees voted to authorize filing the simplified rate case with the PSC.
