Superintendent says district enrollment and achievement are up; referendum likely in November

The school district superintendent updated trustees on enrollment growth, student achievement and workforce recruitment, and previewed a likely operational referendum this November to replace $24.9 million of expiring nonrecurring operational funding. The superintendent said the district's junior class posted the second-highest ACT composite in Wisconsin among 421 districts and that the district achieved the highest state-report-card mark in the county for the first time.
The superintendent described new high-school programming including biomedical engineering and medicine/health-care pathways and noted partnerships with Madison College. On the referendum, the superintendent said the board will vote on final referendum options on August 10; preliminary community feedback prompted staff to consider reducing the initial ask so year-one taxes would not increase beyond the expiring amount. "$24,900,000 goes off of our books at the end of this upcoming school year if the operational referendum is not renewed," the superintendent said. Trustees asked about cost drivers and long-term debt from past capital referendums; the superintendent said detailed budget figures will be provided in follow-up briefings.
