Reese Laymon was formally sworn in as a police officer for the Cross Plains Police Department during the July 27 village board meeting. After introductions by Chief Tony and other staff, Laymon recited the oath of office, pledging to uphold the constitutions of the United States and Wisconsin.
Chief Tony told trustees the department conducted an extensive search and selected Laymon for community orientation and fit with the team; Laymon said he looks forward to training and integration with the department. "I will never betray my badge," Laymon declared during the oath, and later thanked his Madison College sergeants and other trainers for their support. The chief said Laymon will attend the academy in about three weeks, returning for field training with an expected full field deployment around March.
The board paused briefly after the oath for photographs and informal welcoming; trustees congratulated Laymon and staff noted the department's emphasis on community-oriented policing as they integrate the new officer.
