Miramar approves $135 per‑ERU stormwater assessment for FY2026

Assistant Director for Public Works Christy Gilbert presented the FY2026 stormwater assessment and asked the commission to reimpose a rate of $135 per equivalent residential unit (ERU). Gilbert said the city has 60,795 ERUs citywide and projected assessment revenue of approximately $7,000,000 to fund stormwater operations, capital projects and debt service.
Gilbert highlighted ongoing projects including the Miramar drainage improvement phases and said phase 5 is under design and slated for construction in 2026. Commissioners asked whether the assessment is permanent; staff said the current rate followed a 2016 rate study that was intended to cover a 10‑year period and that a new rate study is underway. The commission approved the resolution unanimously and directed staff to return with the new rate study and one‑on‑one meetings with elected officials during its completion.
