Commission finds parking layout acceptable, recommends setback exception

The planning commission examined the proposed parking layout for the Alpine Fire Station and determined the site meets the ordinance criteria to allow parking within the setback as part of the recommendation to city council.
City planner Caden Lyon explained the layout and code considerations: “There’s 30 in this area, and 9 in this area, and there’s 2 ADA parking stalls in both parking areas,” and he pointed commissioners to Alpine City Code section 324060 (location of off-street parking) and the four criteria the commission would consider for an exception. Commissioners discussed safety, the orientation of stalls parallel to Main Street, and whether the 9 stalls near the station would be restricted for firefighter use; staff later clarified by text that those stalls will not be public parking.
The commission agreed the parking layout meets the exception criteria as presented and included approval of the parking setback exception in its motion to recommend the site plan to city council.
