Judge signs multiple name‑change orders, granting petitioners' requests

The Dixon County court clerk announced and the judge granted multiple petitions to change names, including a petition to remove a surname segment and another formal petition to adopt the name Chance Jaros Curry. The judge asked each petitioner the statutorily required screening questions — whether the change was to avoid prosecution, debts, or for an illegal purpose — heard affirmative assurances, then signed and delivered the orders.
In each case the judge required petitioners to sign the final order in court so the record would show they appeared and approved the change; the judge told petitioners they could obtain a copy from the clerk’s office later that day. ‘‘You can get a copy of this a little later in the day from the clerk's office,’’ the judge said after signing an order granting a name change.
These were routine, uncontested matters in the docket and generated no objections from other parties. The clerk will docket the signed orders and advise petitioners about next steps for updating Social Security and other records.
