Florence County Council authorized the addition of multiple positions for Florence County Fire Rescue to support integration of non‑profit departments into the county system. The approved positions include five captain positions (Grade 29), six lieutenants (Grade 28), three firefighter/driver positions (Grade 27), six firefighter positions (Grade 26), two part‑time captains, one part‑time lieutenant, and ten part‑time firefighter‑driver positions.
County staff stated that the responsibilities of non‑profit personnel are being assumed by the county and that vacancies need to be established so hires can be made; the positions will be funded from Fund 37 and are expected to be budget‑neutral per staff projection.
