Select Board member Christie Boswell told the board she has received anonymous complaints and links alleging many property owners are not complying with the town’s short-term rental ordinance and estimated "about 50-75 owners who have ignored the ordinance." Boswell proposed sending written violation notices, developing enforceable penalties and retroactive concessions for owners who complied. The board authorized Boswell to notify GovOS that the town will release their service when Deckard is ready to receive legacy data.
Board members discussed enforcement complexities, noting that current ordinance language does not make the renter (occupant) the violator and that some enforcement may therefore require different mechanisms. Coleman suggested speaking with Chief Tienken; Boswell said she has contacted Fire Marshal Joe Newton and that occupants would need to complain for some enforcement paths. Boswell also suggested the town could consider placing liens on properties as a possible enforcement tool.
