Select Board approves emergency sand purchase; highway foreman seeks approval to order new truck

The Town of Winhall Select Board voted to approve an immediate purchase of additional road sand and salt after Highway Foreman Trevor Dryden told the board the department needs another 1,000 yards of sand, “estimated at $26K,” and that funds would come from the Highway Maintenance Reserve Fund. Christie Boswell moved to buy the materials and Elizabeth Grant seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Dryden also told the board the town should order a new tandem truck for town employee Kenny now to ensure delivery when needed. He gave a gross price estimate of about $367,000 and said the trade-in of the current truck would reduce the net cost to approximately $284,000, and asked that the board place a vote authorizing the purchase at the next Select Board meeting. Dryden reported he has alerted law enforcement about stolen road signs and warned board members that blacktop on roads such as Winhall Hollow Road past Lake Road is deteriorating from weather extremes.
