Transfer station inspection flags fuel pipe, mattress changes and speeding concerns; board approves $50 key replacement fee

Scott Bushee, who oversees the Transfer Station and town facilities, told the Selectboard a recent heater inspection identified a flagged fuel-tank filler pipe and that state reporting for electronic collection needed amendment for 2024. He said mattresses are now classified as municipal solid waste and require an additional bin because they may not be stored on the ground.

Bushee told the board that speeding by people using the Transfer Station "is the number one issue" because staff lack enforcement authority; he recommended movable black-and-yellow speed bumps, as had worked in the past. He also reported installing a coded lock on the Station door and requested that the board provide a Knox Box so Fire Department personnel could access keys during an emergency. The board approved a motion, moved by Elizabeth Grant and seconded by Christie Boswell, to charge $50 for replacement Town Hall building keys when lost.

Members also discussed vegetation and railings obstructing maintenance work and agreed to tag and remove specified trees and arborvitaes. Bushee said he had begun documenting his duties and work items and will supply an updated Transfer Station fee schedule to the board.
