Selectboard approves new highway truck purchase and authorizes bulk salt buy to hedge costs

The Winhall Selectboard approved two operational purchases April 15: a new highway truck from Faith’s Ford and a bulk salt purchase to hedge next winter’s expected price rise.
Highway foreman Trevor Dryden presented five truck proposals: Casey Ram $65,898; Formula Ford $68,378; Faith’s Ford $71,569 (including a $28,000 trade-in); Claremont Ford $72,638; and Monadnock Ford $70,812. Dryden said he preferred a stainless-steel body and recommended Faith’s Ford for its trade-in value and proximity to current service. Christie Boswell moved to accept the manager’s recommendation to purchase from Faith’s Ford; Julie Isaacs seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Dryden also warned salt prices may rise roughly $10 per ton and asked permission to buy 300 tons now, at an estimated cost of about $28,000, using Reserve Funds. The board approved the purchase to lock in current pricing. The board additionally set procurement expectations for culvert contractors—no full closures of Kendall Road and a semi-passable requirement during work.
The actions were presented as manager recommendations and carried on board motions; the town will work with finance staff to execute the purchases and record Reserve Fund use.
