Negotiations between the New Plymouth School Board and the New Plymouth Education Association (NPEA) on May 14, 2026 focused on competing salary-schedule proposals and benefits for certificated employees for the 2026–27 school year. The Board presented two counterproposals (Options A and B) and offered a $600 FTE-based stipend under Option A; the NPEA did not accept that option. The session opened at 4:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
A central outstanding issue was a projected 19.5% increase in insurance costs for 2026–27. The NPEA asked the District to cover the increase; the Board later offered to cover insurance only if the union accepted Salary Option B. The NPEA responded with a counterproposal asking the District to cover the insurance while retaining the 2025–26 salary schedule with movement; the Board declined. Several NPEA proposals on leave, workplace conditions and extra-duty compensation remained unresolved.
