Rockport schools given preview as MCAS accountability data remain embargoed until Sept. 24

Rockport school officials briefed the School Committee on the format and timing of the state’s upcoming MCAS and accountability release, noting that most data are still embargoed and will be publicly released at the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting on Sept. 24.
A district presenter told the committee, “accountability data is currently embargoed, and we’re not allowed to discuss it publicly,” and recommended the committee hold one meeting for accountability context and a separate meeting for MCAS score review after the release. Staff explained accountability reports show two headline measures: a percentile rank comparing the district with comparable K–12 schools and a progress-toward-target score comparing the district to its own goals.
Officials flagged limits on publicly reported subgroup data: “There should be 20 students in a group to get the data released,” the presenter said. Committee members noted that, in a small district such as Rockport, that threshold means some student groups will not have disaggregated results available. Staff said they will receive more guidance the day after the BESE release and will bring fuller school-by-school accountability reports to the next committee meeting for discussion.
