The Brookings County Planning & Zoning Commission met Feb. 3, 2026, and approved its Jan. 6, 2026 minutes and the meeting agenda by unanimous vote. The commission then convened as the Board of Adjustment and approved two variance applications: 2026VAR001 (Thielen Farms) and 2026VAR002 (Doug R. Osthus), each passed 8–0.
During department reports County Development Director/Emergency Manager Robert Hill reminded members to watch the weather. Deputy Director Richard Haugen said Senior Planner Luke Muller had researched lake setback practices in other counties and that those findings would be reviewed with the board at a future meeting. Chair Darrel Kleinjan adjourned the meeting at 7:45 PM.
