Tourism staff reported on a recent attendance at IPW, the annual international travel trade show. The director said Brewster County met with approximately 47 journalists, tour operators and agencies and that, while international visitation is down, the quality of appointments at this IPW was good. The director explained the county was listed independently at the event rather than under a regional partner, which staff said yielded better meetings.
Staff said marketing-committee planning produced a preliminary figure that could approach $1.5 million and that the tourism office will present a proposed budget to the tourism board on June 1 before bringing it to the commissioners. The court discussed options to partner with the state or El Paso to lower the county's direct cost for participation at future trade shows.
