Planners propose matching county notice period in joint zoning ordinance

At a Feb. 3 joint meeting of the Brookings County and City of Brookings Planning Commissions, staff said the county recently reduced its public-notice window from 14 days to 10 days to comply with state law and proposed amending the joint jurisdiction zoning ordinance so both jurisdictions use the same notice period.
"Since this time, when this ordinance was adopted, the county has updated their ordinance and updated their noticing to 10 days to follow state law," Staff member (voice 3) told the commission. Staff asked commissioners to submit suggested ordinance changes to their staff liaisons so proposed amendments could be prepared for the April joint meeting when the commission will consider possible action.
Commissioners did not raise immediate objections. Staff also said the joint review could include other updates identified by members and would return with proposed language and any additional considerations at the April meeting. No formal vote or ordinance amendment occurred at this session.
