The City Commission approved a motion—as amended—to waive fees for Margate Elementary (and other Margate schools that wish to use the covered sports field) for graduation ceremonies and to provide Calypso Cove passes for graduating students.
Vice Mayor Casciano moved to waive the fees; Commissioner Rosano seconded an amendment extending the benefit to other Margate schools and asked that every graduating child receive a park pass. Staff clarified that passes are administered using resident and nonresident rates (nonresidents pay a higher rate at the point of adult admission) and that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult; the parks director confirmed that a free child pass still requires an adult to purchase admission when applicable. Public commenters asked whether pass eligibility would require proof of Margate residency; staff said proofs of address or school identification could be used as needed and that details would be worked out administratively.
The amended motion carried by roll call (Simone Yes; Rosano Yes; Casciano Yes; Mayor Serio Yes). Commissioners said the city manager and parks staff would follow up with implementation details.
