Margate recognizes students and teachers of the month from area schools

The City Commission recognized students and teachers of the month from several Margate-area schools on April 1, presenting certificates, small gift cards and token prizes.
Vice Mayor Casciano read citations for each honoree and Mayor Serio and other commissioners presented plaques and swag. Schools represented included Abundant Life Christian Academy, Ascend Academy Charter School, Atlantic West Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Margate Elementary, Margate Middle, Phil's/Phillips Academy, Rise Academy and West Broward Academy.
The mayor announced that teachers would receive modest gifts (Walmart gift cards, park passes, department challenge coins and restaurant kid-meal cards) and students would receive a similar mix of bags, gift cards, park passes and department items. Vice Mayor Casciano noted a letter from state Representative Christine Honchovsky was included in the recognition materials for at least one honoree.
The presentations were followed by a short recess for photos. Commissioners emphasized community support for schools and student achievement and thanked donors and local partners who provided the giveaways.
