Commission accepts county highway bids for chloride, asphalt, gravel and sand

Lawrence County commissioners accepted multiple recommended bids for highway supplies and services after the highway superintendent read bid prices and recommended low or location-advantageous awards.
For magnesium chloride (de-icing), EnviroTech submitted the low responsible bid at $255.30 per ton and $1.38 per gallon, including a bid bond; the superintendent recommended awarding the chloride contract to EnviroTech and the board approved the recommendation. “Their bid price per ton for magnesium chloride is $255.30...the bid price per gallon is $1.38…my recommendation is to accept the lowest bid, and that would be from EnviroTech,” the superintendent said.
The board also accepted asphalt and aggregate bids (multiple vendors at roughly $75/ton for hot-mix asphalt) and a slate of gravel and deicing sand bids; commissioners authorized the highway superintendent to select suppliers based on price and location to serve the county’s operations for the year. The board approved single bids for precast concrete structures (Rinker) and accepted patching material bids for in-place hot-mix patching.
