The court approved agreements enabling the Bexar County Sheriff's Office to use the Wilshire Elementary School facility under a five-year nonexclusive lease for law-enforcement training. The monthly rental fee is $6,500 (annual $78,000). Sheriff’s office leadership said consolidating detention and in-service training into one centrally located facility will reduce travel burdens and generate small cost savings compared with current arrangements.
Sheriff Salazar and deputies thanked NEISD leadership for the partnership. Commissioners characterized the move as a mid-term solution that repurposes an idle school campus to provide consolidated classroom space, community-relations activities (e.g., trunk-or-treat), and training efficiencies while keeping the option open to pursue a purpose-built regional training academy later. The court approved the lease by motion.
