Elections Administrator Michelle Carew told the commission that Bexar County has been awarded $4,000,000 from the Secretary of State under the Help America Vote Act to purchase additional voting equipment and support more vote centers. "Bexar County was recently awarded $4,000,000 from the Secretary of State office for the Help America Vote Act money," she said, and added the grant will be presented through the county’s grant approval process before spending.
Carew said the grant includes a 20% match requirement and that the April poll‑pad purchase may be used toward the match. The county will take the proposed purchases to the appropriate committees and the commissioners’ court for authorization before deploying funds and equipment in time for future elections.
