Resident disputes grass-cut notice; town attorney cites maintenance obligation

Brian Schexnayder told the council he did not receive a notice regarding grass cutting at his East Second Street property and asked the council to address the discrepancy. "I did not receive a notice," Schexnayder said.
Mayor Douglas Watkins replied that the council has a copy of the notice with signatures. Town Attorney Russell Stutes III advised Schexnayder that it is "a continuing obligation to keep the property maintained in accordance with the law." Council Member Daniel Hennigan said he heard Schexnayder's concerns and agreed to review the ordinance to determine whether its language should be clarified.
The council did not take immediate remedial action at the meeting; Hennigan said he would look at the ordinance and the attorney said he would follow up with Council Member Hennigan.
