Michelle Carew told commissioners that data problems in the county’s poll books and poll pads stemmed from the timing of the TEAM voter‑registration rollout and the untimely closing of a third‑party vendor. "This was not an error that ... anyone at the Secretary of State's office played a hand in when it came to the backlog of voter registration. It was due to the untimely closing of the 3rd party vendor that we used," she said.
Carew described how the county staff and 68 temporary employees processed the backlog, logging thousands of hours of overtime at a taxpayer cost the county recorded as $156,467.87 for temps; she said the county has submitted error reports to the Secretary of State and that some fixes (for example, removal of prior‑name fields or correction of double street names) must be made at the state level. Commissioners asked about pre‑primary testing; Carew said the county runs logic and accuracy checks but that some errors were sporadic and complex to detect until specific records were examined.
