Court approves $4.7M increase to Zarzamora Creek Trail amid higher construction costs

County and River Authority staff asked the court to approve a first amendment increasing the county’s share of the Zarzamora Creek Trail by roughly $4.7 million to cover construction-cost escalation and site-specific challenges. Project managers said the 2.2-mile, 10-foot-wide concrete trail will connect several neighborhood trailheads, provide new neighborhood connections and include lighting and landscaping improvements financed in partnership with the city.
Staff said the county’s portion (after the amendment) will be about $11.1 million for the segment and that the original bid has an expiration that requires near-term action so construction can begin in December. The court approved the amendment and the budget changes necessary to move the project into construction; staff said the construction contract is expected to span roughly two years.
