Carrus Lakeside reports CMS denial of CAH designation; says it will appeal

Rains said, "CMS had issued a denial letter on the CAH Status due to the distance between the other hospitals," and that Carrus is preparing an appeal while looking at sole-community rural hospital options.
Rains told trustees that Carrus has substantial political support and that staff members on a recent call with CMS reflected that support. He also highlighted recent operational improvements: a new radiology machine was installed and the monthly financial report shows the facility is "picking up" compared with the prior month, a development he described as encouraging. The hospital's next steps, as stated in the meeting, are filing an appeal with CMS and continuing efforts to secure an alternative rural-hospital designation.
