Parker County commissioners approve application for 2025 HAVA election security funds

Parker County commissioners on June 30 voted to authorize staff to apply for the Texas 2025 HAVA (Help America Vote Act) election security disbursement.
Cricket, who addressed the court on the grant, said the state set aside $10,000,000 for the program and that “every county can apply.” She told the court Parker County’s guaranteed allocation is $52,000 and that the grant requires a 20% match (about $10,400). Cricket said the county can request reimbursement for e-poll books purchased last year, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2024, and estimated the county could be reimbursed $31,355 for those items.
Commissioner Hill moved to approve pursuing the state disbursement; Commissioner Hall seconded. During discussion, one commissioner asked staff to keep a cost estimate for a possible future switch to marked paper ballots handy during budget season. The presiding officer recorded the motion as carried, 4-0.
The application will be submitted to the Texas Secretary of State; staff indicated they will prepare the required signature and documentation to pursue the reimbursement.
