Shelby County approves $1.605 million contribution for Forever Wild purchase adjacent to Double Oak Park

Resolution 2026-07-13-09, moved by Commissioner Rick Shepherd and seconded by Commissioner Josh Sisk, says the total purchase price is $6,420,000 with Forever Wild providing 75% ($4,815,000) and the county providing 25% ($1,605,000). The resolution passed unanimously. The resolution directs the County Manager to take actions necessary to implement the purchase and specifies that $305,000 will come from the Promotional Fund and $1,300,000 from the General Fund, to be reimbursed to the General Fund over the next five years beginning in FY2027.
The resolution frames the action as a county partnership to enhance outdoor recreation and public trails at Double Oak Park. Supporting documents in the meeting packet include Forever Wild nomination materials and letters from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources describing FWLT offers and conditions for final approval of the purchase.
