Court moves public law-library access from Weatherford library to county clerk terminals

Parker County decided to transfer public access to law-library terminals from the Weatherford Public Library to terminals at the county clerk's and district clerk's offices; county staff said the books will be removed because electronic access is used more frequently.
The court agreed to transfer public access to the law library from the Weatherford Public Library to terminals in the county clerk's and district clerk's offices, while allowing the public library to leave a terminal in place but not retain the physical books.
"We both have room, existing terminals in our offices for public research... Neither one of us want the books. We don't think they're hold any value because I don't think anyone uses books anymore. They mainly go electronic," the county clerk said during discussion. Commissioners and staff confirmed that the law-library terminal will remain available to the public at the clerk's offices and that shelving and desks already moved from the Weatherford library will be repurposed.
Commissioners also noted the Parker County Bar may provide input and that funding for library-related items comes from filing fees rather than the general tax levy. The motion to transfer public access and move books passed unanimously.
