Elections staff seeks $18,611 Hart Verity upgrade; commissioners press on frequency and certification

Elections staff briefed the court on an $18,611 upgrade to the Hart Verity 2.7 election system and asked the county judge to be authorized to sign the quote. Staff said the upgrade is federally and state certified and that the county has the funds in its election revenue account.
"It's $18,611 is the amount. We have that in our fund, and that's what mister Walden was asking about earlier," staff said. Commissioners pressed staff about how often upgrades occur and whether upgrades represent recurring vendor charges; staff said this would be the second upgrade since the 2019 purchase and that current certification occurred in March. A commissioner asked, "If we don't upgrade this, what happens?" staff replied, "Nothing really. We just stay with what we have right now." The court approved the upgrade by unanimous vote.
