Legislature OKs underground telecom easement along future Schunnemunk Rail Trail

The committee approved authorization for the County Executive to grant an easement across county-owned property in the Town of Cornwall for an underground telecommunications line serving a proposed four-lot residential subdivision. Paul Wiley of Real Property Tax Service said the telecom conduit will use the same footprint as an electrical easement approved in October 2025 and will run along the westerly side of the new Rosewood Lane adjacent to the future Schunnemunk Rail Trail.
Wiley confirmed the easement was moved to avoid parking impacts and reminded members that the subdivision’s approval included a 2.39-acre donation to the county. Legislators pressed for certainty that parking and trail barriers would be adequate; Wiley said trail design and parking will be developed during the trail design process and the easement as proposed should not affect the parking area.
