County authorizes $900,000 grant application to upgrade Cronomer Hill Park restrooms and playground

Legislator Genesis Ramos moved to authorize the County Executive and the Department of Parks to submit a Municipal Parks & Recreation Grant application to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for up to $900,000. Commissioner Travis Ewald said the grant would fund ADA-compliant restroom replacement and a larger ADA playground area at Cronomer Hill Park; the grant would be 90% state-funded with a 10% local match from cash and/or in-kind resources.
Ewald noted Cronomer Hill previously received more than $1 million for tower repairs and warned that state contract execution and procurement requirements typically push construction timelines out: "Once the award is announced they have to wait for the state to come back and do their legwork...I am anticipating that the contract with the state and the procurement for consultant and design process is going to take them through the end of this year, before they can move into construction," he said, estimating construction in 2027 if the grant is awarded.
