County approves parks equipment purchases and heated pesticide storage at Stony Ford

Legislators approved a $341,769 capital project (bonding) to purchase three pieces of parks equipment to maintain and develop the county park system; two pieces will be surplus and one is a new item, Travis Ewald, Commissioner of Parks, Recreation & Conservation, told the committee. The request is part of the department's 2026 capital plan and department staff said quotes include a 10% contingency.
Separately, the committee authorized $60,000 (bonding) for a prebuilt heated storage unit at Stony Ford Golf Course to replace aging heaters in an insulated storage unit that currently holds up to $150,000 of pesticides and liquid materials. "Our existing one is over 25 years old and only one of the four heaters inside it is currently functioning," Ewald said, stressing the need for explosion-proof heaters to safely store hazardous materials. Both capital actions were approved unanimously.
