Committee approves release of county interest in Mount Hope parcel after owner pays back taxes

Genesis Ramos moved to approve releasing the county's interest in certain deed-sale parcels to prior owners of record; County Attorney Richard B. Golden said the local law adopted in 2001 permits returning property to an owner who has paid back taxes, interest and penalties prior to a court judgment. Golden said the county's release does not erase other liens or judgments on the property but restores the property to the owner as it stood when the county asserted its interest.
"We’re not giving anybody a free ride but we’re also returning the property to the owner," Golden said, describing the single parcel currently affected in Mount Hope and confirming the county does not evict residents in tax-foreclosure proceedings prior to a court judgment. The committee approved the release unanimously.
