Local Mason urges bus-stop shelters after students stood in rain

Mason Thurman, a member of the Masonic Lodge, told the Bristow City Council on Feb. 3 that he drove by several school bus stops during heavy rain and saw children standing with no shelter. "He feels there should be a bus stop shelter at each stop," Thurman said, and added that the Lodge can provide labor if the city helps cover the cost of supplies and approves locations.
Mayor Kris Wyatt said she would assist with the project and that she expected the council could help raise funds; Police Chief Kendra Raney said she would contact the school district to identify how many stops are within city limits and where they are located. Councilmember Judd Johns asked whether responsibility for shelters rests with the city or the school district and noted that placement may require coordination with landowners and the City Inspector. The council did not take a formal vote on the request at the meeting.
