Fire marshal: county will clean up VFD boundary lines ahead of CAD/911 migration

Kendall County fire and EMS officials are working with local fire chiefs to redraw volunteer fire department (VFD) district lines so the county's new CAD/911 system will recommend the correct responding unit, the county fire marshal said May 5.
"What we're doing is on some of the properties, it goes straight through the property line ... where 2 different fire departments service that address," the fire marshal said while describing cases where a property mapped to one department is physically accessible only from another. The map clean-up effort is being coordinated with a city GIS coordinator and the chiefs; county staff will bring finalized maps back to the commissioner's court if disagreements remain. The fire marshal said the changes are intended to support accurate dispatch recommendations, maintain mutual-aid coverage and preserve departments' eligibility for funding that requires defined service-area maps.
Commissioners agreed no immediate court vote was necessary and directed staff to continue coordinating with chiefs, to include EMS mapping for ambulance coverage, and to return with finalized data. The county's migration to a new Tyler Enterprise CAD system is driving the timing for the cleanup so the 911 address data will populate with correct service-area assignments.
