The Summit County Service Area #3 Board of Trustees voted April 21 to reduce a resident’s water reconnection fee from $2,500 to $250 in a single-case appeal. Vice Chair Justin Shea proposed the temporary reduction and Chair Derek Price seconded; the motion passed unanimously (vote 7-0).
Board members discussed whether to make a permanent change to the policy. Staff and trustees said a permanent fee reduction would not require a public hearing but would need to be properly noticed. The Board directed staff to place a potential permanent fee change on next month’s agenda for further consideration rather than deciding it immediately. The action reduced the resident’s immediate obligation by $2,250.
