Engineers seek up to $27,000 change order for 9-1-1/jail electrical upgrades; commissioners approve

The Parker County Commissioners Court approved change order #3 for the county’s 9-1-1 renovations after engineers described unanticipated electrical work needed to support console power and uninterrupted power supplies.
"There was a number of items in the initial design where we were informed some things would be taken out during demo and panels would be available," said Shannon Ape of Baird, Anthony & Brown Engineers. Ape told the court items remained in place after demolition and the consoles require three types of power — utility, generator backup and UPS — which may require additional UPS capacity. Ape said the firm is coordinating with NCT9-1-1 and expects to reduce the immediate ask from $27,000 to roughly $12,000 once final amperage needs are confirmed.
Commissioners asked where the funds would come from and whether this change order rolled into prior work. Ape said change order 2 had already been approved and the total between change orders 2 and 3 currently stands as presented; staff noted the change order includes a previously approved credit tied to earlier work. The court voted to approve the item by a 5-0 vote, with Commissioner Walden moving and Commissioner Hale seconding.
The motion carried without further conditions. Staff said they would return with any reduced figure if coordination with NCT9-1-1 lowers the final cost.
