The Education and Economic Development Committee voted to direct the Clerk of the Legislature to publish the annual Notice of Review for Orange County Agricultural District No. 1. Michael L. Essig moved the request and Virginia Scott seconded the motion.
Betsy N. Abraham, legislative counsel, outlined the statutory process: “Our time frame is March 1st through March 30th which allows applicants to submit their applications,” after which the county refers applications to the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board for a 30‑day recommendation. Abraham said the Legislature must issue a resolution within 120 days of March 30 to include or exclude properties, and that the eight‑year statutory review is separate and scheduled for 2028. She emphasized that inclusion in the Ag District does not automatically grant tax exemptions; owners must contact local assessors for any tax relief.
