Airport board hears Part 139 inspection praise, authorizes fixes after two deficiencies

The Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport Board heard a summary of a recent FAA Part 139 inspection that included both high praise and two specific corrective findings. Director Todd Chatfield told the board the inspector complimented the airfields condition, the quality of staff training and the state of the airport's ARFF and snow-removal equipment, but identified shortfalls the airport must address.
Chatfield said the inspector cited an inadequate preventative maintenance program for all visual aids on the airfield and the airports failure to verify that an FAA maintenance employee operating in the movement area had current ground vehicle/driver training. "The operations team is actively working on developing a preventive maintenance and inspection program to ensure compliance as quickly as possible," Chatfield reported to the board. He also said staff restricted gate access for FAA personnel who are not up to date with required driver's training to promptly address the second deficiency.
Board members did not take a separate formal vote on remedies during the meeting but were informed that staff will implement a preventive maintenance program for airfield visual aids and will formalize gate access procedures tied to driver training records. The discussion followed Director Chatfield's operational report, which included the inspection summary and other routine operations statistics.
