Public hearing opens on Yates County draft solid waste plan; resident urges waste-to-energy exploration

Chairwoman Leslie Church opened a public hearing at 1:01 p.m. on the Yates County Local Solid Waste Management Plan presented by the Genesee Finger Lakes Planning Council.
Tom Bagley, a Yates County resident who said he "works in the industry that provides equipment to waste-to-energy facilities," told the Legislature there are ways to pursue waste-to-energy without harming the environment and that the resulting energy could help offset high local energy costs. "I do not want to ruin the beauty that is in Yates County, but I think they can do it smart and responsibly," Bagley said.
The county recorded that the public comment period on the draft plan is open through the end of the day on March 19, and comments can be emailed to LSWMP@yatescountyny.gov. Chairwoman Church closed the public hearing on the plan at 1:34 p.m., preserving the public record for any subsequent legislative action or plan revisions.
