County attorney reads Dinwiddie Board’s code of ethics at annual organizational meeting

The county attorney performed the annual, required reading of the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors’ bylaws and code of ethics during the organizational meeting on Jan. 6. The attorney read the code aloud, emphasizing public trust, nondiscrimination, disclosure of conflicts and adherence to the Freedom of Information Act.
“In recognition that persons who hold public office have been given public trust … any person serving on the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors should adhere to the following code of ethics,” the county attorney said while reading the text aloud. The attorney told members he noted one minor tweak to the bylaws that he may bring forward for written notice at a future meeting.
The reading is the board’s annual review of ethics and bylaws; the attorney reminded members that proposed changes require written notice in advance of consideration.
