Board approves small front-setback variance to allow porch landing and safer ingress

The board approved a variance that will allow a porch post on the Hemminger property to remain approximately 44 feet from the centerline of the road where 50 feet is required.
Kayla explained staff mistakenly issued a building permit using existing (preexisting) setbacks and that when the inspector followed up, the petitioner chose to apply for a variance rather than re-angle the porch post to meet the 50-foot requirement. The requested variance reduces the required front setback by roughly six feet to allow a safer landing that, staff said, will improve ingress and egress.
Board members commented they understood the site constraints and the petitioner’s preference; the motion to approve the variance passed by roll call. Kayla told the petitioner to contact the office for an updated address and to follow the normal permit process.
